The oldest consumed distilled spirits in North America--Tequila, Mezcal and more—await your sipping pleasure at The Spirits of Mexico, celebrating the 185th Anniversary of Mexican Independence, Saturday September 16, downtown at the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center.
From Greek meaning ‘noble,’ the agave has been cultivated in Mexico for more than 9,000 years. Only for the past 500 years has this succulent been used to make Mezcal, Tequila and other fine spirits. We are thankful of that development.

Sip your favorite agave spirit with sangrita! Move over Mojitos! Here comes The Paloma! Enjoy your favorite tequila and mezcal in these wildly popular cocktail sensations of Mexico.
THE PALOMA (from Cocktail Times)
2 oz. Tequila
1 oz. Grapefruit Soda
1/2 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
Build over ice in a tall (Collins or Hurricane) glass with a salted rim. Garnish with a lime wedge.
SANGRITA RECIPE (from Barbara Sweetman of Scorpion Mezcal)
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
4 tsp. Grenadine syrup
1/4 cup tomato juice
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 tsp. or more salsa picante or bottled hot sauce
1/4 tsp. salt in a bottle or pitcher
Mix together all the sangrita ingredients. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour, allowing the flavors to meld. NOTE: sangrita is often served in a separate glass alongside a straight shot of Mezcal (or with your favorite Tequila)

Beverage Specialist Jacques Bezuindenhout of Tres Agaves & Harry Denton’s Starlight Room in San Francisco, President of the San Francisco chapter of the United States Bartenders Guild and noted contributor to The SF Chronicle, the LA Times, 7X7 Magazine, Wine Enthusiast, Sante', Cheers Magazine, the Fine Living Network, Food Network & Channel 4 News will conduct a seminar along with Marco Dionysos, on Tequila, Mezcal and Mixology, courtesy of the Museum of the American Cocktail.
