The creative force behind Gehazi Collections unique line of jewelry and accessories will make personal appearances this weekend at KiKi Shepard's 4th Annual Celebrity Bowling Challenge in Studio City, Calif. and the Red Carpet Boutique prestige shopping event at the Cabana Club in Hollywood. Saturday evening's Celebrity Bowling Challenge, which is expected to draw the likes of tennis champion Venus Williams and Emmy winners Victoria Rowell and S. Epatha Merkerson, will feature a sale of Gehazi Collections signature necklaces, bracelets, earrings and watches. Gehazi will donate 20 percent of the proceeds to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc. and the Dorothy H. Shepard Sickle Cell Scholarship Fund. At the Red Carpet Boutique on Sunday, which is also a benefit for the Step Up Women's Network, Davis' wares will be showcased alongside offerings from some of Hollywood's most sought-after independent retailers.
Davis' singular designs were chosen to appear in celebrity gift bags in 2005 at actress Sheryl Lee Ralph's Divas Simply Singing benefit concert and tennis legend Billie Jean King's Women's Sports Foundation Annual Salute to Women in Sports gala. During an April appearance on Martha Stewart's daytime talk show, Ralph gifted an enthusiastic Stewart with one of the Swarovski crystal and Bali silver bracelets that Davis designed specially for Ralph's Diva Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about HIV/AIDS. The bracelet has proved so popular that it is now a permanent part of Gehazi Collections' signature line and is available through the company's recently relaunched Web site, www.gehazi.com. A portion of the proceeds from the bracelet, which features sterling silver letters that spell "DIVA," will be donated to the foundation.
"I'm thrilled to support these charities with the sale of our jewelry and accessories. Gehazi is a word that means 'valley of vision' - and that vision will always include charity and good works," says Davis. The Tampa, Fla. native and former journalist introduced her fun, fashion-forward and eclectic showpieces five years ago after becoming discouraged with the lack of jewelry that incorporated bold color combinations and textures. "I began making jewelry from unique materials like Mah Jongg tiles, textured beads and things I often didn't see in stores," she recalls. "Since then, we've gone from being a cult favorite at Mah Jongg tournaments to having our gemstone bracelets discovered and worn by Hollywood's hottest."
Her handcrafted works, utiliizing gemstones, pearls, crystals, beads and Bali silver are offered in three distinct lines: the elegant Signature Collection, the colorful Eclectic Collection, and the whimsical Mah Jongg Collection. With their bold character and vibrant colors, Davis' works are frequently described as versatile and eminently wearable. On a recent podcast for fashiontribes.com's LA Story blog, interviewer Stevie Wilson told Davis that her work was "something that I think a lot of people can relate to and appreciate. … I can't see anybody not wearing something in your collection."
