Hip New Blog, Modish, Explores the New Shopping Frontier of Independent Design

Created to support independent designers and help shoppers looking to find unique goods, Modish shows readers just how stylish “indie” can be.

Reno, NV (PRWEB) July 18, 2006 -- Modish is a stylish new shopping blog that focuses solely on handmade goods made by independent designers, artists and craftspeople. From jewelry and handbags, to clothing and paper goods, the fresh finds on Modish represent some of the best that the world of independent design has to offer.

Jena Coray, writer and editor, started Modish last April to help bring more exposure to “indie” (independently owned) businesses such as her own. “I run an online jewelry shop and I found myself so amazed by the work of my fellow craftspeople, that I felt I needed an outlet to both voice my inspiration and help spread awareness of the incredible goods that are being made by indie designers.”

With style, wit and a heaping dose of dedication, Modish has successfully become just that: a place for Jena to explore and introduce the hippest handmade goods, and a resource for shoppers who are looking to find something more unique than the latest trends at the local mall.

Modish offers an invaluable resource to consumers by presenting handmade goods as a viable alternative to mass-produced ones. “Independent businesses don’t have the resources to compete with multi-national retailers,” explains Jena. “I hope for Modish to help bridge the gap between shoppers and indie designers, and prove that handmade goods can be just as stylish, if not more so, as what you find on the shelves of say, Urban Outfitters.”

The items featured on Modish are often one-of-a-kind and always unique. Jena features products that she feels are innovative, yet in line with current design trends, that will appeal to a broad consumer base.

“I have no idea how I found you, but I am so glad I did! You have a great eye. I have forsaken most other style blogs for yours because you are on the money more often than most,” raves Modish reader, Teresa. Updated a few times daily, Modish draws about 12,000 unique readers a month and traffic continues to grow steadily.

The more traffic, the better, as Jena’s sole intention with Modish is to help support the indie businesses that it features. One such business owner had this to say after her site, Twigs & Heather, was featured: “We have gotten a lot of attention because of Modish. That girl rocks! Thank goodness for people who support the arts and indie designers!”

Modish is fast becoming an incredible resource for shoppers and indie business owners alike and there’s more in store for the near future; an indie shopping directory will soon be added to the site and there are plans to release a newsletter, host a reader nominated “best indie shop” contest and much more!
