Solana Productions Covers Couric's Visit

As Katie Couric continues her national tour, Entertainment Tonight continues coverage. For Friday's appearance the show relied on Solana Productions, Inc. for satellie delivery of timely material.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 17, 2006 -- Fighting cancer and her new job were on Katie Couric's mind Friday when she visited San Diego as part of a nationwide tour.

The soon to be anchor of the “CBS Evening News” spent the day visiting patients after hosting a town hall meeting asking viewers how to improve newscasts.

“Entertainment Tonight” has been following Couric and the show turned to Solana Productions, Inc. for Friday’s San Diego video production. Shots of her arrival at a fund raising luncheon were fed by satellite to update west coast editions of the show. Additional coverage and interviews will appear this weekend and Monday.

Couric’s trip is part of a cross-country tour designed to let viewers talk to the talking head. And Couric was all ears. However she declined to reveal much detail about what the meetings have gleaned from viewers. She said “that’s for us to know and you to find out.”

In her luncheon remarks Couric recounted the devastating experiences of losing her husband and sister to cancer. During her husband’s illness she was co-anchoring and raising two toddlers.

Because of her personal experience Couric later told “Entertainment Tonight” that the hospital tours meant a great deal to her.

“I guess it’s a chance to give something back. To take some time to listen,” said Couric.

Couric has maintained her sense of humor. She joked with the luncheon crowd of several hundred about getting a colonoscopy live on television as part of a Today Show segment.

She also mentioned that her championing the fight against colon cancer has led to such a dramatic increase in testing that researchers call it the “Couric Effect.”

Couric’s tour continues this week in San Francisco.
