New animation technology now available as BREW extension; will provide ultra lightweight hi-res animation capability for the mobile market.

FrameFree Technologies, developers of a family of products that provide easy and efficient authoring and compression of motion imagery, today announced it is supporting QUALCOMM’s BREW solution with its newly announced FrameFree Studio animation technology, one of the first digital imaging software solutions that enables the creation of compelling movies from still photographs without a steep learning curve or compromised quality at any bandwidth.

Built on the world’s most advanced pixel-matching and interpolation engine, FrameFree Studio starts with any-resolution digital still images, and through analysis, interpolation and morphing, automatically provides interactivity and smooth motion between them, resulting in a completely new medium and style of visual expression. The motion imagery generation is fast, easy-to-learn and virtually automatic, ending the need for powerful systems and lengthy frame-by-frame editing, and leaving digital content producers more time to orchestrate their creative vision. FrameFree plans to ship further extensions for the BREW solution in the near future to cover on-phone encoding and server-based movie converters.

“Working with QUALCOMM to bring FrameFree Studio to wireless publishers and developers via the BREW Extension Program is a further illustration of our commitment to the ‘author once, publish anywhere’ concept for digital artists and content creators,” said Thomas Randolph, president, FrameFree Technologies. “The quality of BREW enables us to bring our exciting technology to this medium and provide the mobile market immediate access to extremely advanced digital imaging software.”

“We are very pleased to be working with FrameFree to enable exciting animation technology to users around the world with BREW mobile phones,” said Sachin Deshpande, head of developer relations for QUALCOMM Internet Services. “The wireless industry has proven that there are revenue opportunities for digital artists and enormous potential for continued growth in the digital imaging arena.”

The BREW solution drives the discovery and delivery of data services. BREW subscribers benefit from several offerings, which include: uiOne™ for rich, integrated and dynamic user experiences with fast access to high revenue services on wireless devices; deliveryOne™ for differentiated and tightly integrated, operator-managed support and delivery of advanced wireless data content and services; and marketOne™ for a quick-to-market, hosted, scalable content delivery service that includes media titles, flexible management and monetization, content provider settlement and business intelligence services. QUALCOMM offers this comprehensive set of BREW offerings to meet the needs of companies delivering mobile products and services around the world.
