Total Editorial Services, a company focused on editing, copy editing, proofreading, as well as writing and rewriting both new and existing material, opens its doors on July 1st, according to Robin Swados, the head of the company. Swados comes from a long and wide-ranging publishing background that spans more than 20 years. Starting with a three-year stint in the editorial and copy editing department of the national headquarters of The College Board in New York, Swados moved on to dual editorial and foreign-rights positions at the esteemed publishing house of Alfred A. Knopf, where he both acquired books and sold the translation rights to them throughout the world. After eight years at Knopf, Swados was asked to join the editorial department of Doubleday, the famed publisher of such blockbusters as The DaVinci Code. Four years later, Swados chose to leave the corporate world in search of more autonomy. For the past several years he has worked on a freelance basis, editing a wide range of manuscripts, from fiction to nonfiction to textbooks and corporate statements.

Editing and rewriting theater scripts and screenplays are also a specialty at Total Editorial Services; prior to his work in publishing, Swados was an actor and director in show business, and he is also a playwright. His play A Quiet End received wide critical acclaim and has been produced in numerous cities internationally, including off-Broadway in New York; London; Los Angeles; Philadelphia; St. Louis; Amsterdam; and Washington, D.C. Swados was awarded an Editorial Fellowship to the 1993 Jerusalem Book Fair, a writer's fellowship at the Ledig House Writer's Colony, and also served as AT&T Guest Artist at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.
