Vienna, VA (PRWEB) July 24, 2006 -- University of Fairfax president Victor Berlin announced the First Graduation: Seeking to lead the country in higher education to combat cyber crime, the University of Fairfax president Victor Berlin presented today its first graduates from MS and PhD programs designed to produce information security and information assurance leaders. These graduate programs enable students to earn an MS or PhD in Information Security.
President Victor Berlin emphasized that the success of these first graduating students underscores the commitment of the University of Fairfax (UoF) to producing leaders who can address national information security priorities. Through its online degree programs, the University of Fairfax cultivates industry and government leaders capable of anticipating and defending against cyber attacks effectively. Given the nation's critical need for qualified personnel who can protect corporate information systems and the field's rapid expansion (forecast to grow by more than 2 million workers by 2008), the UoF information security focus is especially important.
The degree candidates came from all across the nation, including Arizona, North Carolina, New York, Georgia, Virginia and Maryland.. Their employers included Verizon, Lockheed Martin, System1, Wachovia, Mantech, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Department of Defense. They hold positions in areas that include IT Compliance, Enterprise Architecture, Teaching, Information Security and Information Assurance.
"The success of our students while they are still in school, as well as those of our graduates clearly demonstrates how the University effectively accomplishes its mission to provide adult learners with high quality, practitioner-oriented, graduate degree programs that develop highly effective, ethical leaders who address critical issues at the forefront of the information technology arena," said Victor Berlin, President of the University of Fairfax. Mark Rasch, Vice President of Solutionary, and a leading cyber law attorney, gave the commencement a highly motivating speech and warned the graduates that their education could not end in order to meet the ever evolving cyber threat environment.
To add a "touch of class" to the commencement reception, Student Loan Xpress provided the Commencement Cake, baked by celebrity Chef Duff Goldman of Charm City Cakes. The cake consisted of a baked sculpture of the University of Fairfax logo.
