Statewide Power Agency Elects Welsh as Chairman
James C. "Jim" Welsh, P.E., president and general manager of Kissimmee Utility Authority, today was elected chairman of the Florida Municipal Power Agency, a wholesale power company supporting municipal electric utilities throughout the state.

"Jim" Welsh, P.E., president and general manager of Kissimmee Utility Authority, today was elected chairman of the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA), a wholesale power company supporting municipal electric utilities throughout the state. The announcement was made during the agency’s annual meeting in Naples, Fla.
Welsh succeeds chairman Elie J. "Bud" Boudreaux, P.E., director of utilities at Fort Pierce Utilities Authority, who leaves the board after 12 years of service.
Welsh has served on the FMPA board since 1982, including terms as vice chairman, treasurer, secretary-treasurer and assistant secretary-treasurer. The length of his term as chairman is one year.
"I'm honored by the opportunity to lead FMPA as we continue to serve the wholesale power needs of Florida communities," said Welsh. "It is a pleasure to follow on the strong foundation laid down by my predecessor."
Welsh holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College and engineering degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. He holds membership in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE).
Welsh has headed the utility in Kissimmee for the past 23 years.
FMPA (www.fmpa.com) is a nonprofit, joint action agency formed to develop competitive power supply and related services for 29 member municipal utilities. These members collectively serve approximately 1.8 million Floridians.
Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
