Nanette Martin Print Benefits MuttShack Animal Rescue Training Fund

“The Face of Animal Rescue”, remarkably captured in a stunning print by Nanette Martin is now helping animals and creating awareness and funding for Muttshack Animal Rescue First Responder Training.

New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) July 23, 2006 -- Nanette Martin's poster captures a remarkable story. On October 25, 2003, a lost hunter set a signal fire northeast of Ramona, California. The carelessly laid spark ignited what became known as the largest wildfire in the state’s history, the Cedar Fire. By the time it was 100% contained, the fire had burned 280,278 acres, killing 14 people, including one firefighter, and destroying 2,232 residences, 22 commercial properties, 566 outbuildings and 148 vehicles.

Queenie, a Labrador Retriever, and her canine friend, Beatrice, were left behind when their caretakers misjudged the proximity and speed of an oncoming forest fire. The family barely made it out alive when the 30-mile wide front with its 100-foot high flames raced up their canyon at 75 mph. The smoke was so thick they simply could not find either dog. Returning days later, they found both dogs, miraculously unharmed.

The black and white semi gloss 24 x 18 print features a stunning image of the yellow Labrador Retriever, amidst the charcoal background in a real-life survival scene. Nanette Martin, is a freelance documentary photographer who focuses her efforts on documenting the aftermaths of disasters, such as the September 11, attack on the World Trade Center, the deadly 2003 fire season in San Diego County, California and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

Proceeds from the sale of this poster benefit MuttShack First Responder Animal Rescue Training Program, which now has more than 100 students across the nation. MuttShack Animal Rescue, is a 501(c)3 non-profit, national member-based group that offers a unique online training program for animal rescue volunteers, and has been working diligently to raise awareness of the need for training in emergency animal rescue.

"MuttShack adopted a FEMA based animal rescue program, drawing on what we learned in New Orleans during the aftermath of Katrina," said Amanda St. John, founder of MuttShack Animal Rescue. "At that time, the issue of training was critical and ad-hoc. Because of the lack of training, these animal rescue responders were being put at great risk“.

“We were looking for a way to celebrate the brave responders, and Nanette Martin’s photo of Queenie running towards the camera in her brilliance as an artist truly captured the spirit of the joy of rescue. Your purchase will help raise valuable funds to continue animal emergency rescue training.” She added.

Prints of “Queenie the Firedog” will be made available from MuttShack Animal Rescue, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and care of lost or discarded dogs, cats and other animals. The funds will promote animal emergency rescue training efforts and support related training programs.
