Freedom – At Any Cost
In a climate of growing military hostilities around the world, retired Navy servicewoman, Denise Turney, knows the necessity of staying the course when it comes to achieving, and, equally important, maintaining freedom.
(PRWEB) July 24, 2006 -- In a climate of growing military hostilities around the world, retired Navy servicewoman, Denise Turney, knows the necessity of staying the course when it comes to achieving, and, equally important, maintaining freedom. This week, Denise, author of the highly acclaimed books, Portia, Love Has Many Faces and Spiral (www.chistell.com), discussed how critical it is that we take up courage to face and triumph over hard blocks of resistance that, at times, threaten certain freedoms.
“Christ stated in John Chapter 10 that, ‘A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.’ When one combines experiences from their personal, physical existence with this scripture, it is evident that visions of joy and freedom do not exist without vigilance and inner-battle. I’m not talking about fighting such as the military fighting that is going on in the world. I’m not referring to physically striking someone or setting off a bomb. I’m referring to personal, internal battle. Without gaining victory over the thieves, like fear, doubt, guilt, that exist within our individual selves, real freedom will not be realized, and we will continue to engage in external warfare.”
A sobering thought, Turney readily states; nevertheless, a sobering thought that has proven to be true. It is this relevant thought that Turney addresses in her new release, Long Walk Up (www.chistell.com). “All one has to do is look at the numerous self-help books, high demand for psychologists, and others in the medical profession, scores of people seeking change via holistic lifestyles, and it becomes increasingly clear that more of us are waking up to the fact that, in order to gain real freedom, we must face and overcome internal obstacles, walls of resistance packaged in patterns of fear. Truth is, our great ally and our great challenger are one and the same – us.”
When asked how Long Walk Up speaks to this universal truth, Turney says, “Long Walk Up allows readers to gaze into the heart of someone else’s life. Readers can watch a young girl, a child named Mulukan, be born into abject physical poverty and lack. Readers can look on while Mulukan watches others move away from this extreme physical scarcity until she believes she too can gain freedom. Readers can observe the seemingly insurmountable (and they are extreme) obstacles this young girl must face. And then, just as this determined child steps into her destiny, readers see another strong wall of resistance appear only to, yet again, see Mulukan meet this resistance and scale it.” Turney states that, “It is this cycle of challenge and triumph that takes readers to the core of themselves, that allows readers to see what happens within, while they, too, move toward their destinies.”
