The Carbon Project is pleased to announce that the third generation of its open-geospatial .NET™ toolkit CarbonTools, CarbonTools PRO™, is now available.

CarbonTools PRO is a new software development toolkit that enhances the Microsoft .NET framework for advanced location content handling and sharing. With CarbonTools PRO you can develop advanced location-based social networking™ applications or extend existing systems for enhanced geospatial interoperability.

CarbonTools PRO licenses are provided on a per developer basis and there are no royalties, fees or other limits on applications developed, ever. To learn how CarbonTools PRO can support your .NET development please visit http://www.thecarbonproject.com/dev.php.

CarbonTools PRO features include:

New framework for advanced mapping – CarbonTools PRO is built on the new Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework.

Unified API for geospatial interoperability – .NET developers can now use the location content they want, wherever (or whoever) it comes from - Google Earth KML, OSGeo MapGuide, Yahoo Maps, Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC) GML, WMS, WFS and WCS, ESRI Shapefiles, Autodesk, MapInfo and more are all supported.

Powerful new form and dialog controls – MultiMap, Zoom, Legend, Geocoding and many more controls for easy and powerful drag-and-drop development.

Seamless web mapping – New DataRasterTiles classes let tile-based mapping services, like Google Maps and Yahoo Maps, work together with bounding-box based services like OGC.

Symbology engine for powerful, meaningful maps – New GDI+ based Symbology Engine enables customizable, extendible feature symbology and rendering classes.

Tools for working online, or offline - Serialized, transportable geospatial session files™ (GSFs) are integrated into CarbonTools PRO, allowing you to work offline with all types of location content.

Internal caching for performance and mobility – New Internal Caching tools provide maximum performance when working with your location content offline.

Tools for creating and sharing location content - Grounding-breaking new applications can be driven by content from your users - including the new MyPlace™ Notes editing and styling, Geocoding services, Location Selector controls and more.

*Ad hoc and survivable networks – The CarbonCloud™ extension to CarbonTools uses peer-to peer (P2P) technology to enable connections directly between users’ computers so they can instantly share location content in a safe and secure environment. There’s no server or website involved, the connected computers is all it takes!

*CarbonCloud is provided as a separate extension to CarbonTools PRO and will be available in winter 2006.
