Derek E. Meeker Joins AdmissionsConsultants, Inc.; Former Penn Dean Serves as Law School Admissions Consultant

Meeker, former dean of admissions and financial aid at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, provides consulting services to the company’s law school applicants. In this capacity, he will facilitate with law school selection, admissions strategies, essays, interviews, career counseling, pre-admissions testing and more.

He added that increasing numbers of law school applicants over the past two years prompted the decision to hire Meeker. “His expertise will certainly enable us to respond to the growing demand,” said Petersam. “In addition to his law school admissions background, Derek fully understands the perspective of the applicant, having obtained dual degrees in journalism and law, respectively."
Prior to joining the firm, Meeker was the final decision maker on more than 21,000 Penn Law applications and has been credited with numerous improvements in the law school's admissions process. He previously was assistant director of admissions at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He also served as an assistant attorney general in Ohio, where he represented universities and state agencies in employment litigation. In the early 1990s, he was a legislative aide to the chairman of the Ohio Senate Judiciary Committee. In this position, he drafted legislation in the areas of criminal law, sentencing and the state lottery.
Meeker earned his Doctor of Laws (J.D.) degree from Capital University in Ohio. He studied comparative law at Oxford University in England and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Ohio University.
