Joel Cheesman, president of HRSEO, is one of the Internet’s most famous and widely-read blogger on emerging recruitment issues in the world. He was the recipient of Recruiting.com’s Best Technology Recruitment Blog in 2006.
Joel’s blog is a daily chronicle of how the Internet and technology are shaping human resources and how organizations can attract the talent needed to thrive in tomorrow’s economy. As an employee and insider of some of America’s biggest online job sites since 1997, Joel founded HRSEO to help employers and companies in the recruitment space move to a world where search engines deliver high quality and cost-effective traffic.
David Hurst, Founder of Onrec.com, explains the background to the Online Recruitment Conference and Expo, being held on September 12-13, 2006, in Chicago, Illinois.
"I have been monitoring suppliers to the recruitment industry for the last 15 years. I am based in the UK but have travelled every year, for the past 12 years, to learn from and enjoy conferences in the US.
I will never forget my first conference. The American Staffing Association had just got a new name and the conference was in Dallas. The conference started with the ASA President welcoming delegates, and then the doors opened at the back of the vast hall and two cowboys on horseback galloped to the front of the room, each carrying star spangled banners. We sang the national anthem and then they galloped out. I was awestruck.
It was after a conference in Las Vegas in 1999, when I returned to the UK determined to provide recruiters and HR with information about online recruitment. At that time, it was all about job boards. I couldn't keep up with them popping up in the UK, and I was interested, so I wondered how any recruiters, HR or candidates could keep track. Three months later, Onrec.com went live on 14th February 2000.
Fast forward to 2006, and we have had an office in Chicago for almost 2 years now, and have just opened an office in Australia. Having organised conferences in Europe, and Australia, we are hoping to bring something new and interesting to the market with our Show in Chicago on 12th and 13th September.
Our aim is to bring delegates interested in online recruitment from the US together with delegates from around the world, who share a common interest, provide stimulating content and debate, alongside an Expo that will provide a unique mix of indigenous suppliers, as well as a fresh view from international suppliers that can supply the US home market, or that can supply products and services in the local markets.
So I invite you to come along and join with other delegates interested in how online recruitment is developing, and is moving forward.
My definition now of online recruitment is the process from finding and communicating with a candidate, to bringing them into your organisation and monitoring them through and keeping in contact with them, when they leave your business.
I do hope you can join us in Chicago. I can’t promise horses, but I can promise enlightening discussion and stimulating debate in a friendly atmosphere".
