Lutheran Medical Center's Emergency Department Will Go Paperless With EmpowER®
Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) July 25, 2006 -- Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, recently advanced the technological state of its emergency department by installing a computerized emergency department information system (EDIS) in September 2005. The system, called EmpowER®, was designed by Chicago-based IT vendor ECDS (Emergency Care Documentation Systems) to electronically capture all patient information and enhance patient flow for better customer service in the ED.
Using EmpowER, doctors and nurses can access patient information at any time rather than having to search for a paper chart. A patient’s visit to the ED is electronically tracked, which speeds up triage and registration and not only eliminates paperwork but reduces the amount of time patients spend in the waiting room. The system also mandates risk management in the form of automatic prompts, which remind doctors and nurses of drug allergies or potential drug-to-drug interactions—helping to ensure that the maximum standard in patient safety is achieved. This is in sync with Lutheran Medical Center’s mission to consistently meet and exceed the needs of the neighbors they serve.
“EmpowER has helped to organized the doctors and nurses in their patient care,” says medical director Dr. Bonnie Simmons. “It has calmed down our very busy ED. We look more professional and our work environment is noticeably quieter. That even occurred on day one of the go-live!”

The documentation system enables the clinicians to create a concise and legible record.
