Iraq War Meets Vietnam War at Book-Signing
Book-signing at Lyon Books in Chico features two authors: Penny Rock, a nurse in the Vietnam War, and Phil Dynan, a US Army Vet. Both have books dealing with the experience of war.
Chico, CA (PRWEB) July 27, 2006 -- Lyon Books, 121 W. 5th street, will host a pair of authors at a book-signing event at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 5th.
Phil Dynan, local artist and author will be sharing his new book, "Brother Eagle, Sister Moon," which chronicles the lives of an Iraqi family, an American helicopter pilot and a French doctor during the current Iraq War. Sergeant Alvarez, a character in the fictional book also happens to be a real-life friend of the author. Alvarez will be at the Lyon Books event and is just back from an extended tour in Iraq.
Penny Rock, whose life as a nurse during the Vietnam War has been portrayed by Sigourney Weaver in a BBC play, will be introducing and reading from her new book, "He Called Me Lieutenant Angel." Penny is now an Executive Business Consultant and Coach, Breast Cancer survivor and inspirational speaker. Penny was featured in the Academy Award nominated documentary film "A Healing," and is the subject of Normi Noel's play "No Background Music."
Penny and Phil both bring stories of life during the trauma of war. And both of their books speak of love, hope and redemption. "Brother Eagle, Sister Moon" is an uplifting story of the bonds that form between people caught in the midst of war. "He Called Me Lieutenant Angel" is a story of strength and enlightenment, a tribute to all the extraordinary young soldiers and nurses who share the intimate, final moments of life.
Both Penny and Phil are veterans. Penny served in Viet Nam. Phil served in the Middle East with the Army Security Agency.
Dynan has had art exhibits at Moxie's and Has Beans Coffee House during the past year. His notecards and prints are also sold at stores in the Chico area, including Lyon Books. "Brother Eagle, Sister Moon," which features a 12-year-old Iraqi boy and his 16-year-old sister, is aimed at the Young Adult market, although adults will find the tightly written book engrossing.
