Children International’s Latest Benefactor is One Caring Poet
First copy of poetry book "Healing Us" is being auctioned on eBay to benefit Children International.
Cleveland, Ohio (PRWEB) July 29, 2006 -- The first sentence of the first poem in Healing Us states simply, “All children matter.” In a time when poverty and abuse are so common that we page past them in the news for something new and different, it can seem like there is no one to hear their cries. Though organizations like Children International work tirelessly to make sure that children have a safe and comfortable world free of fear, poverty and despair, it is too easy for the rest of us to forget. In this jaded world of disposable lives, how many of us hear the sound of a single tear as it runs down the face of a child?
For Selena Millman, this was one of the driving forces in Healing Us, a book of poetry dealing with lost, pain and, most importantly healing. Children have always been a priority to Millman and she has devoted the entire first chapter of the book to poems about child abuse, orphans, and the importance of loving, caring for, and, most importantly, noticing the children in our lives. She hopes that, with her words, she can inspire others to see the world with new and caring eyes and to help stand up for those who are too young to stand up for themselves.
But Millman hopes is backing up her belief with more than just power of words. Beginning on August 1st, 2006 a copy of Healing Us will be available for auction on eBay.com. But this is not just any auction. Though eBay’s MissionFish program, all the proceeds for this auction will go directly to Children International to help in their work with the youngest victims of poverty and hunger. Bidding for the book will start at $9.99 (below the book’s retail price of $11.95) and its maximum value is limited only by the generosity of the bidders and their commitment to the cause. The higher the book auction goes, the more money will be given to the charity.
Though Millman declined to speculate on how much money the book will raise for the foundation, she is hopeful that people will recognize the worthiness of the cause and drive the bid price up. With any luck the promise of a book of inspirational poems of healing along with their donation will encourage everyone to place their bid for the good of children everywhere.
Bidding for the book will begin at midnight on August 1st and will continue for 10 days. The auction can be found at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=180007544606
