Three Colleges Four Students

Four College Students at Three Universities Start a Company

(PRWEB) July 30, 2006 -- Three Colleges and Four young entrepreneurs, who meet while serving as state officers of Career Technical Student Organization, have come together to start their own company. The four entrepreneurs are: David Lett who is attending Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Evan LeRoy who is attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Gabriel Garcia and Adam Dewar who are attending Northwood University in Midland Michigan.

This unlikely group served together as Michigan DECA State Officers a few years ago. While returning from the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida, Adam Dewar made a comment, setting the foundation for their venture. “I can see all of us running a company together one day. We all have complimentary attributes,” Dewar said to the group, while waiting for their flights home.

Lett, while reading the Wall Street Journal, saw an article that gave him an idea. Remembering the words that Dewar had said almost a year before, Lett contacted everyone and asked if they would be interested in creating a company. Once they all agreed that they were interested, Lett unveiled his idea for the company.

The idea was simple and seemed like it would be a perfect fit for the four college students. Starting a company would also allow them to get real world experience before they graduated. This is another way that four could also earn money while still attending college too.

The type of company that these four students have started is nothing new. However, they are trying to overcome the challenges of running a business from different locations that span several hundred miles. One thing that makes this possible, for the college students, is the internet. The company is a web based retailer of their own originally design of t-shirts.

The inspiration for the shirts is simple, make them provocative and capture people’s attention. If a shirt gets the wearer noticed then it is considered a successful shirt.

The company that the college foursome has launched is www.gedapear.com. However, the company’s name is Geda, LLC., comes from using each their first initials of the first name. The problem was a company in Europe already owned the domain name. Buying the domain name from the company this wasn’t an option. The decision to put the company’s logo into the domain was made. The company uses a pear logo, which came from a brainstorming session one day. One of partners deciding to play on words blurted out, “Geda pair.” Everyone laugh, the decision was made to change the type of pair to the fruit.

The college foursome has not found smooth sailing so far. There have been many delays and setbacks. Initially we wanted to be up in running last September, however, printing and website issues were setbacks. The web site wasn’t operational until this summer. “There have been many opportunities to call it quits, but they haven’t. “Me and my partners couldn’t live with our self’s if we just gave up,” says Lett. Not sure where this venture will go the four young entrepreneurs are excited and nervous, but view this like a true modern day adventure. Who knows, we could broke in a year, flying high, are just struggling to get by, either way we look forward to the challenges ahead.
