Give, a line of luxury handbags, travel bags and small leather goods, will launch a new initiative called "Organizations We Love" on August 1, 2006. Give will choose a different non-profit each month and in addition to contributing to the organization, will feature them on their website (http://www.shopgive.com) and in an e-newsletter to their customers. Give has chosen New York Cares (http://www.nycares.org) to be the non-profit for August, the inaugural month of this program. As the name implies, Give donates 10% of its net profits to designated charities year round.
The philosophy behind the Give brand is that although the top priority is creating a beautiful product, it is also important to give back to the community. "Since New York Cares focuses on creating avenues for people with other jobs and priorities to find the time and resources to give to worthy organizations, they are the perfect partner for the launch," says Give founder and designer Christine Valenti. "Furthermore, we are based in New York, so we love organizations that are making New York City a better place to live and work."
Founded in April of 2004, Give has taken off quickly, with rave reviews from local, national and international press. Two signatures pieces in the collection are the leather train case (touted by In Style magazine as the "Bentley of beauty luggage") and the weekender, which was featured on Oprah’s O List and is carried by Penelope Cruz and Christina Ricci. The company continues to expand and will add handbags and duffles in rich fabrics, such as lambskin and satin, in the Fall of 2006. Although the products capture the spotlight as far as the press is concerned, the company continues to remain true to its giving-back philosophy, and "Organizations We Love" is just one way it will continue to evolve its charitable mission as the company grows.
