Conformance accelerates flexible carrier-class Ethernet service delivery for Metro Networks.

White Rock Networks, a leading provider of next-generation optical transport systems for metro networks, announced today that its VLX2020 and VLX2006 have received certification for compliance with MEF 9 for all three Ethernet services defined by the Metro Ethernet Forum. These include Ethernet Private Line (EPL) Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) and Ethernet LAN (ELAN), for point-to-point (EPL or EVPL) or multipoint (E-LAN) Metro Ethernet services.

The VLX2020 Optical Transport System and VLX2006 Multi-service Access Platform were tested by Iometrix test laboratory and have been certified to comply with all the requirements established in the MEF 9 Abstract Test Suite for Ethernet Services at the UNI. Combined, the two platforms offer service providers a low-cost access solution and scalable hubbing/switching solution for MEF-complaint Ethernet service delivery over metro optical networks.

The MEF Certification Program is designed to accelerate the adoption of Carrier Ethernet by helping service providers evaluate the equipment of various manufacturers and make it easier to provide the key features of Carrier Ethernet: rapid service creation, smooth scalability to 10 Gbps, end-to-end protection, robust service level agreements, and flexible support for voice, Internet, and multicast traffic.

“Optical transport systems play a big part in the delivery of metro Ethernet services and this certification shows that SONET-based Carrier Ethernet platforms will continue to be an integral part of a carrier’s toolkit for some time to come,” says Lonnie Martin, Founder and CEO of White Rock Networks. “Ethernet over SONET platforms continue to be widely adopted by service providers for Ethernet service delivery in the metro. Our MEF certification shows that Ethernet over SONET platforms provide a truly carrier-class solution that augment MEF service capabilities.”
