Tired of Getting in Trouble at Work? New Book Helps You Get on Your Boss’ Good Side

New book by HR guru Peter R. Garber shows people how to manage the relationship with their bosses better. "100 Ways to Get on the Wrong Side of your Boss" is available for pre-publication ordering starting today.

Oshawa, Ontario (PRWEB) August 3, 2006 -- We’ve all had one – a boss who can sometimes be too demanding or irritable. “The challenge is to find ways to deal with even the most difficult bosses you may have to work for during your career,” says Peter R. Garber, author of the new book 100 Ways to Get on the Wrong Side of your Boss. “It is inevitable that you will work for a difficult boss at one time or another.”

Becoming friends with the boss, says Garber, isn’t usually an option. The boss/subordinate relationship itself may make having a friendship with your boss difficult if not impossible in many instances. Unfortunately, sometimes people’s relationships with their bosses at work can get so strained that they are treating each other as if they were the competition, or even the enemy.

So, what is the solution? Garber suggests that maybe you need to call a truce with your boss. You need to think of your boss as if you were in a partnership working towards the same goals. While Garber’s book lists 100 issues in several categories that could be the root cause of a poor working relationship with your boss, he says that “if there is a poor working relationship between a boss and employee, you are bound to find a lack of effective communications between them.” In his book, Garber lists 29 communication problems and specific tips you can follow to resolve them.

In addition to communications tips, the book gives advice for dealing with other problem areas such as performance, planning and organization, working relationships, assignments, problem solving, and giving and receiving feedback. It provides rather comprehensive coverage of the root causes behind your boss’ bad attitude and how to improve your working relationship with him or her.

With so much advice, it may be hard to decide where to start. Garber has a solution: “I do try to follow the advice I give but sometimes I having to keep reminding myself of what is probably the best boss advice you can ever receive –‘No matter what, the boss is always right!’”

"100 Ways to Get on the Wrong Side of your Boss" by Peter R. Garber (Multi-Media Publications Inc., ISBN 1895186896) $24.95 US/$29.95 CDN, 224 pages, paperback.
