CIMdata releases report analyzing SolidCAM's exceptional growth.

SolidCAM, the Gold-certified Integrated CAM-Engine for SolidWorks, and CIMdata, a leading worldwide strategic consultancy company, today announced that SolidCAM was named as the most rapidly growing worldwide CAM software vendor for the 3rd consecutive year. CIMdata projects that SolidCAM will again be the fastest-growing CAM software vendor in 2006 with a growth rate of +35.7%.

According to the CIMdata, Numerical Control (NC) Software and Related Services Market Assessment Version 15, the worldwide CAM software market grew in 2005 at a rate of 6.5% over 2004. CIMdata named SolidCAM as the overall most rapidly growing CAM software vendor with a growth rate of over 40% in 2004.

“SolidCAM has established a distinctive position in the market by being one of two CAM vendors to be certified Gold partner of SolidWorks. They have been able to capitalize on this partnership and the acceptance of SolidWorks in the mid-range design market and this is the primary reason for their rapid growth,” said Alan Christman, CIMdata Chairman and author of the report.

SolidCAM is totally integrated in the 3D CAD mainstream system SolidWorks, which then enables all necessary operations for manufacturing of a part inside SolidWorks. With its single-window integration in SolidWorks, all SolidCAM machining operations are defined, calculated and verified in the SolidWorks environment. All geometries used for machining are fully associative with the SolidWorks design model. When the geometry of a part of the mold design is modified, SolidCAM enables the user to automatically synchronize all machining operations with the updated geometry. Since no data translation is necessary, not only is precious time saved and risky errors within the production process minimized, but also the communication between designers and NC programmers is greatly improved.

SolidCAM also provides a broad spectrum of CAM capabilities including support for all aspects of hole making, 2 ½ -axis through simultaneous 5-axis milling, high-speed milling, indexed “tombstone” machining, basic turning, synchronized mill turning, and EDM,” commented Christman.

The upcoming version of SolidCAM2007 R11 will provide NC programmers with a new module for “High Speed Machining” (HSM), especially for the manufacturing of complex molds, tools and dies. Mr. Christman commented about the upcoming release, saying “Moldmakers often have to do mold design and NC programming in one process chain, so that for them single window integration is an important factor to reduce the lead time of the molds.”
