ShipnShred.com Launches New Pill Bottle Shredding Service for Pharmacies Affordable, Secure Pill Destruction Now Just a Click Away

Pharmacies who are currently dumping their pill bottles and prescriptions in the trash now have an affordable way to securely dispose of them.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) August 7, 2006 -- Today ShipnShred.com launched a new service to make it easy for every pharmacy to shred their pill bottles and prescriptions, rather than tossing them in the dumpster. The service costs less than $25 a box and accepts paper and pill bottles.

Until now pharmacies had to choose between buying expensive shredders and a shredding services that may not accept pill bottles.

"We want to help solve an important problem facing America's pharmacies," says Steven Hastert, president of ShipnShred.com "Right now, most pharmacies don't know how to securely, and cost effectively dispose of the hundreds of pill bottles and prescriptions that get left at their counters each week. ShipnShred.com provides a secure and cost-effective solution to shred it all."

Hastert says the pill bottle shredding program is in response to an NBC television station in Indiana who ran a series of four investigative reports demonstrating a consistent pattern of casual disposal of both personal and health-related information by area pharmacies.

It is a violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act to throw medical information the garbage.

"ShipnShred.com started as an easy way for offices and homes to securely shred paper," he says. "Destroying pill bottles is just a natural evolution of the service."

Hastert says the NBC investigation made it clear to him how frequently pharmacies were ignoring HIPAA requirements and disposing of sensitive materials in insecure dumpsters. "It is not only a HIPAA violation but may expose patients to identity theft. We want to help the nation's pharmacies with a viable alternative to the dumpster."
