Stories About Places: Building a Database of Everywhere

A new online community, terranid.com, aims to help users share stories about places.

(PRWEB) August 7, 2006 -- Tagging it as a “database of everywhere”, site founder Sam Glidden says he built terranid to allow users to share their experiences living and traveling around the world.

“We already have some great stories about places from Boston [US] to Machu Picchu, Peru”, says Glidden. “Initial user contributions have been very good.”

Terranid utilizes a unique posting system to keep content relevant and on-topic. Users are only able to write one article – called a “blurb” on the site – per geographical location. While they can update their blurb later, they are discouraged from commenting on what others have written. Glidden says this should keep every story unique and interesting.

The site isn’t just about sharing stories: users are also able to keep track of places they have been and wish to go. They can also “watchlist” other users, and be notified of new postings. “It’s all about connecting people to places in ways they haven’t been before,” explains Glidden.

Glidden says that terranid began as an idea he had several years ago. It wasn’t until recently, however, that he was able to bring his plan to fruition. Terranid is currently being hosted out of MIT, in Massachusetts.
