PoochMPI Toolkit for Mathematica Announced

We announce the PoochMPI Toolkit for Mathematica, enabling Wolfram Research's Mathematica to be combined with the easy-to-use, supercomputer-compatible Pooch clustering technology of Dauger Research. We can truly run Mathematica in parallel, enabling its power to be combined with Pooch's ease of use and reliability. This new technology, as Pooch as done before, will further enhance the power of clusters for its users.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 7, 2006 -- Dauger Research, Inc., and Advanced Cluster Systems, LLC, today announce the PoochMPI Toolkit for Mathematica, enabling Wolfram Research's Mathematica to be combined with the easy-to-use, supercomputer-compatible Pooch clustering technology of Dauger Research. This new technology, as Pooch as done before, will further enhance the power of clusters for its users.

"Pooch has long provided users with fastest and easiest path to parallel computing", said Dr. Dean Dauger, President of Dauger Research, Inc. "Today we've truly run Mathematica in parallel, enabling its power to be combined with Pooch's ease of use and reliability. This creates one of the most powerful cluster solutions ever and a milestone for which we're proud."

"PoochMPI for Mathematica takes Wolfram Research's gridMathematica to levels never experienced before." says Zvi Tannenbaum, co-founder and CTO of Advanced Cluster Systems, LLC. "We're thrilled by the possibilities. This opens up whole new worlds for Mathematica programmers to explore, limited only by their imagination."

Inspired by the supercomputing-standard Message-Passing Interface (MPI), the PoochMPI Toolkit creates a standardized way for Mathematica kernels to communicate with each other directly. This solution stands in contrast to typical grid implementations that are master-slave or server-client in that all the kernels can communicate with each other directly and collectively the way modern supercomputers do.

As they do for cluster codes, Pooch and MacMPI provide the support infrastructure to enable this supercomputing-style parallel startup and inter-kernel communication. Within the Mathematica environment, this creates an "all-to-all" communication topology, which practitioners have found to be required to address the largest problems in scientific computing since the first large supercomputers.

Besides locating, launching, and coordinating Mathematica kernels on a cluster, the PoochMPI Toolkit provides an API that closely follows the MPI standard appropriate for use in Mathematica. Enabling Mathematica kernels to be harnessed together the way supercomputers are, this fusion of Mathematica, Pooch, and MacMPI makes problems accessible that never were before.

The PoochMPI Toolkit for Mathematica will be available in six weeks via our web sites. Until then, please visit the Science Connection on Thursday at 9 am for a demonstration of the technology as part of a presentation by Dauger Research at WWDC 2006.

Via the Dauger Research web site users can access tutorials outlining the different types of parallel computing, and descriptions, in Fortran and C, of the basics of writing parallel code. Website visitors can download installers containing a trial Pooch, sample parallel applications and source code, and a Software Development Kit. Dauger Research makes it easier than ever to write, develop, and run your parallel code today.

Profiled and honored very recently on national television by the William Shatner-hosted "Keeping America Strong" show, Dauger Research, Inc. makes high-performance computation and visualization easy to use and accessible to users. Our award-winning team, to better accomplish our scientific goals, reinvented the cluster computer in 1998, pioneering easy-to-use, high-performance clusters. Dauger Research, Inc., is committed to bridging the divides between the scientifically and technically complex and the mainstream.
