"The Utopian Society" Stunner -- Malin Akerman -- Lands 2 Giant Roles 2 Big Studio Pictures,Bob Odenkirk's, "The Brothers Solomon" and the Farrelly Brother's, "Seven Year Itch"

Malin Akerman's US debut film is a little indie that few people know about. That's about to change.

(PRWEB) August 8, 2006 -- Malin Akerman's US acting debut was in John Aguirre's "The Utopian Society," a little indie that few people know about.

After a long run as a festival darling, (selected in over 40 US film festivals), "The Utopian Society" was never released by a major studio for distribution. Although, according to Aguirre, the film contains Malin Akerman's biggest performance to date as "Tanci," the self centered sorority brat.

"It's unfortunate that a lot of the young siren's fans may not know about 'The Utopian Society'," says Aguirre. "But they soon will as that's about to change as Malin continues to land giant studio roles opposite stellar talents like Will Arnet, Will Forte and of course Ben Stiller."

Akerman has recently joined the cast of two major studio comedies, "The Brother's Solomon" (Columbia Pictures) and, "Seven Day Itch" for DreamWorks Pictures.

According to Variety, Peter and Bobby Farrelly have written the script for "Itch" and will direct the film that already stars Ben Stiller and Michelle Monaghan. Akerman will play the bride from hell to Stiller, who plays a man who hastily marries her thinking she is his perfect mate. As he watches her turn into a nightmare on their honeymoon, he meets another woman who might be his real soul-mate (Monaghan).

Akerman's character in "Itch" is not far from her character in "The Utopian Society," where she plays a venomous yet beautiful sorority girl struggling to find her balance between being popular at all costs and being honest with herself. In "Utopian" she develops a relationship and toys with a with another student, Caleb, played by Mat Hostettler. He ultimately challenges her to make a decision on how she'll live the rest of her self-centered life.

As Malin Akerman continues to land big studio roles, it will be hard to suppress the enthusiasm her fans feel when they start perusing all of her previous work, including "The Utopian Society."

"I knew she would be a big star some day," says director John Aguirre. "But she did have to work for the lead role in my film. I had to call her back for a third audition because she was so sweet and I didn't know if she could make the turn be the bitch the role required of her. On her third call back she nailed it and scared all of us in the room as her performance took us back to the many times us guys had been rejected by chicks like the "Tanci" character. She does sparkle, and that's the stuff stars have always been made of."

ProActive Entertainment has released "The Utopian Society" on DVD and it's available on Amazon, Netflix and at the film's web site www.theutopiansocietymovie.com.
