Going Back To School: Stopping School Violence

Tips for Parents on how to handle bullies at your child’s school. Teachers are not properly equipped to handle this social epidemic and too often administrators are not supporting the teachers.

Sending the kids back to school this year may be a big relief for parents but can be stressful for children. Not only do they have to worry about finding their place in their mini-society, they have to make new friends, look cool, and face the bullies.

Most parents do not know it, but their child may be bullied or is a bully. Kids avoid telling their parents or teachers because they are ashamed and embarrassed.

Every seven minutes a child is bullied on a school playground with no intervention happening 85% of the time. Teachers are not properly equipped to handle this social epidemic and too often administrators are not supporting the teachers.

Derek Randel, former teacher, now a Parent Coach and lecturer on bullying is educating parents about bullying inside and outside the classroom and on your home computer with his new book, Stopping School Violence: The Complete Guide for Parents and Educators on Handling Bullying.

Some signs Derek says to look out for if your child is being bullied are: fears going to school, missing possessions, cuts, scrapes and bruises, always going to the nurse, does not bring any friends home or does not want to use the computer.

In fact, bullying has gone wireless. Cyber-bullying is psychologically much worse than physical bullying. Kids are being bullied when they are alone in their bedroom.

Randel says, “The goal for parents would be to discuss this subject with your child before it’s an issue, that way when it becomes a problem, it will be easier to discuss.” Schools are avoiding getting involved in cyber-bullying because it is initiated in the home.

Many solutions are found in Randel’s new book now available at stores nationwide.

Derek Randel offers seminars to school districts and provides parent counseling. His free educational programs for schools can be found on his website: http://www.stoppingschoolviolence.com along with a free monthly newsletter Parent Smart From The Heart that is circulated to over 40 countries.
