Pima Medical Institute, 3333 E. Flamingo Road in Las Vegas announced they have hired Kristen Gillan as the Clinical Director of the Veterinary Technician program.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) August 9, 2006 -- Pima Medical Institute, 3333 E. Flamingo Road in Las Vegas announced they have hired Kristen Gillan as the Clinical Director of the Veterinary Technician program. Gillan’s duties include supervising and coordinating the Vet Tech externs during their clinical rotations. In addition, she will be setting up agreements with new sites for both Vet Assistant and Vet Tech graduates.

Gillan will also be involved with PMI’s partnership with the Animal Foundation and Lied Animal Shelter. PMI’s Veterinary Technician students will train at the shelter and learn nursing techniques utilizing live animals that are scheduled for surgery and vaccination as part of the ongoing spay and neuter program at the shelter. PMI, in turn, will provide nursing care for many shelter animals with blood work, radiography, microbiology, and proper pre- and post-surgical care. Neither entity charges for their services.

“Kristen’s experience practicing as a nurse in veterinary medicine, as well as her background training student interns, will help ensure our students receive the skills they need to be successful,” said Sam Gentile, campus director of the Las Vegas career college. “We have a lot of exciting opportunities ahead of us and Kristen will be an integral part of our success.”

PMI’s Veterinary Technician Program is a 63 credit-hour program offering an Occupational Associate Degree and allowing the students to sit for the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE). The Vet Tech program, accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and meeting the high standards for veterinary nursing education, is an 18-month, competency-based program. Students receive academic training with ample opportunity for the student to demonstrate hands-on nursing skills with live animals in both small and large animal medicine.

The Las Vegas campus also offers programs for Dental Assistant; Medical Assistant; Medical Administrative Assistant; Pharmacy Technician; Phlebotomy Technician; Radiography; Respiratory Therapist; Veterinary Assistant, and Veterinary Technician.

PMI is one of the premier medical career colleges in the western United States. The privately owned, accredited school provides students with a well-rounded education embracing theoretical classroom studies, as well as on-site training at medical facilities that mirror the working environment they will pursue after graduation.
