London, UK (PRWEB) August 9, 2006 -- A teenage novel for the whole family. Sibling Rivalry between a pair of non-identical twins. “Crushed” - Frances Lynn's stirring and funny saga of the ugly sibling who turns into a beautiful swan.

Frances Lynn was once the most feared gossip columnist in London. Her victims were terrified of her. But, Frances Lynn had a lot of fans. Her legendary column in David Bailey’s defunct Ritz Newspaper made her readers laugh out loud.

Frances Lynn is still a humorous writer, but she no longer deflates celebrity egos with her vitriolic pen. She has reinvented herself. She is now an author of teen fiction.

Her funny, illustrated teenage novel called “Crushed” is out now. The author's quirky drawings are so individual, it’s worth buying the book for them alone.

“Crushed” is about sibling rivalry with a vengeance, but has an unpredictable twist of a happy ending. Door and her twin sister are unalike in every way. Dee is a dainty ballet dancer. Door plays the drums. They even have crushes on different pin-ups. The twins get along - just about. But Door is full of self-pity. She is tall and thin like a beanpole. Her twin sister is petite and beautiful. How can they belong to the same family? Door suspects she’s from another planet. If she isn’t, her family certainly is. Door feels so different in every way, she’s certain she’s adopted.

Frances Lynn has an original style of writing. She is also an incredibly funny writer. “Crushed” is aimed at 12-15 year olds. Older teenagers will be able to relate to the teen fiction book too, especially if they also have unrealistic crushes on pop stars or young movie icons.

When Frances Lynn was twelve, she had a big crush on Mick Jagger and wrote him a fan letter. He replied! She also wrote to Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, telling him to get his teeth fixed. A short time later he did!

"Crushed" is not only for girls. Boys will find the novel interesting as well, especially if they want to discover how girls tick.

'Once in a while you read a book that you wouldn't normally choose, and get blown away. This is what happened to me on reading Crushed. It’s a fairy tale that Grimm would have been proud to have written. Dark things happen in an otherwise familiar world. The tight use of language - the narrator’s voice is as Grimm as the characters - takes us inside the darkness of the children’s minds as they try to cope with their dysfunctional family and their teenage angst. The plot unfolds in an otherwise apparently uncontrolled stream of consciousness, leaving one wondering if the author's words are leading events, or events leading the author. Altogether and assured and fascinating debut novel,' says Andrew Palmer, 47.

‘The novel is infused with snippets of humour and maintains a continual fast pace. As a result, it is sure to appeal to all young girls who have ever had an insatiable crush, experienced such inconveniences as a sibling, or have been driven by the desire to achieve their dreams. Considering that the majority of young people can relate to these factors, I have no hesitation in recommending this book as a most enjoyable read,' Helen Ralli.

'I'm impressed. I'm clearly not the target audience for this book, but nonetheless I found it very readable. The prose has a simple, almost fairy-tale quality to it and the sibling rivalry is nicely sketched," Clive Ashenden, Horror film director.

People wanting a pay rise, should give “Crushed” to their boss as a present for their children, nephews and nieces. “Crushed” would make an ideal gift, especially for Christmas. It's in hardback only, and is definitely worth its ($ 24.25) price.
