Seattle Public Theater Unveils the World Premiere of "(Just Like) Starting Over" -- a play based on John Lennon's final interview
"I consider that my work won’t be finished until I’m dead and buried, and I hope that’s a long, long time."
-- John Lennon, December 8th, 1980
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) August 8, 2006 -- Seattle Public Theater (SPT) is staging the world premiere of Seattle playwright Steven Roseta’s "(Just Like) Starting Over," September 7-17, 2006. Presented by British director James Veitch, this play is largely based on an unpublished interview with John, together with Yoko Ono, granted hours before he was tragically murdered on December 8, 1980.
This dialogue-driven story will make audiences feel like a fly on a wall inside the Lennon’s quarters in the Dakota on that fateful day. They talk openly about: emerging from five years of seclusion to release Double Fantasy, reversing roles, and a newly found familial bliss. It is revealed how the marriage of minds between John and Yoko yielded so many complex artistic and political statements. Rendering the timeless relevance of his art and words, John’s intriguing commentary on such transformations as the anti-war movement, terrorism, women’s rights, religious freedom, racial equality, and conservative politics echo clearly into our world today. A 30-minute excerpt of the show will debut at Bumbershoot 2006 on September 2nd. "(Just Like) Starting Over" is sponsored by Ludeman Capital Management, Inc. and the Law Offices of Cowan Miller & Lederman. Promotional partners for "(Just Like) Starting Over" are KZOK 102.5 FM and the Experience Music Project (EMP). For more information, go to http://www.jlso.blogspot.com.
Accompanying "(Just Like) Starting Over" will be the second John Lennon Jam benefit concert, to be held at Seattle Public Theater on Friday, September 1, 2006, for two encore performances. The first John Lennon Jam took place at the Crocodile Cafe to a full house on the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death on December 8, 2005. There will be a special guest performance by Alan White, legendary drummer for the mega-band Yes and John Lennon’s renowned "Imagine" album. The show features a specially assembled “Jam” band of Seattle rock veterans fronted by Rick Lovrovich (Beatniks) to perform John Lennon’s classic Beatles tunes and solo music. Other members include Jakael Tristram (Hit Explosion), Jon Bolton (Beatniks, Herding Cats) Mike Mattenly (Herding Cats), and Johnny Jones. Proceeds will benefit SPT’s production of the stage play "(Just Like) Starting Over." Promotional partners for the John Lennon Jam are KZOK 102.5 FM and the Experience Music Project.
