Fighting Cancer: The One Fact You Need to Know; New Book, 'Dying Body, Growing Faith,' Shares the Inspirational and True Story of a Couple Fighting Cancer

The new book, Dying Body, Growing Faith is a wife's personal journal. Based on a series of e-mails to friends and family, it tells the intimate story of her husband's struggle against cancer and what they learned about living, as they strove to live their Christian faith through the ordeal.

Detroit, MI (PRWEB) August 8, 2006 -- In her new book, Dying Body, Growing Faith, author Sandra Eggers tells the inspirational and true story of how her husband, the Rev. Dr. Steve Eggers, struggled against Stage IV colon cancer. Based on e-mails sent to family and friends during their more than two-year battle, these “SteveUpdates” did more than chronicle the Eggers’ cancer journey for their 80 recipients. The Eggers also shared with them what they were learning about living, so their friends and family could apply it in their own lives.

“The one fact you need to know when you battle cancer or any other terminal illness,” says Sandra Eggers, “is to know it’s a psychological battle, too. You fight it by taking your life back, by making your ‘new normal’ as normal as possible.”

For example, Eggers says that she and her late husband worked hard to enjoy the simple things in life, like a gelato on a warm summer’s evening, a good glass of wine, fresh flowers at dinner.

“These simple things do help in the psychological battle,” says Eggers, but that’s not all that will get you through. You also need the loving support of friends. Help from a good counselor. And a dependence upon God or Higher Power, because when it comes to cancer, there is so much outside your control, so much you can’t understand.”

Some of the other themes in the book include: finding the joy in daily living; the strain cancer places on a marriage and the role of hardship in creating character.

“On December 2, 2005, at age 50, my husband died,” says Eggers. “Although he lost his battle with cancer, he won his battle with life. To me, that’s success.”

In her more than 20 years’ experience as a professional writer, Eggers has held positions including: general assignment reporter for the Knoxville (IA) Journal-Express; business magazine writer; business magazine editor; radio copywriter; direct mail copywriter; free lance writer and now, founder and president of Purple Eagle Marketing, a marketing communications company whose mission is to transform companies and increase their sales through the power of words. Eggers regularly conducts free, two-hour workshops on “How to Create Brochures that will Save You Money, Time & Headaches.” Dying Body, Growing Faith is her first book.

The inspirational and true story Dying Body, Growing Faith ($9.99, Xulon Press, ISBN 1600342299) is available in the United States through Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble bookstores, Forbes Book Club and the publisher, Xulon Press at: 1-866-909-2665.
