NBC's "StarTomorrow" Chooses Bob Gentry as One of Their Finalists

Detroit native Bob Gentry competes for a record deal on NBC's new online music competition, "StarTomorrow." The show's winner is chosen by viewers with the help of Grammy winning producer David Foster.

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) August 9, 2006 -- He’s performed with internationally known artists, written film and television scores, and has a huge fan base, but Bob Gentry has yet to catch a real break in the music industry. However, chosen as one of NBC’s top 100 musical acts for their new exclusively online music competition “StarTomorrow,” his luck may soon change.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Gentry, who writes, sings, and plays piano and guitar, competes in week two of “StarTomorrow” with voting open on the show's website from August 7-14, 2006. In addition to taping two original songs for the show, “Upside Down” and “The Easy Way,” two cover songs were filmed to be used for the initial rounds of the competition. For round one, Gentry performs Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be.” He appears on the show with his backup band of Randy Morris (bass), Kevin Jellison (guitar), and Chuck Irwin (drums).

An interactive program, voters determine the show’s outcome with the help of Grammy winning producer David Foster, who provides comments on the contestant’s performances. There are 100 acts in the first round of which 20 bands, singers, and solo artists compete head-to-head each week. The site also provides band interviews and opportunities for fans to show their loyalties.

“StarTomorrow” isn’t the first opportunity Gentry has had to expand his fan base. Several years ago Gentry fronted the all-original rock band “Moisture” who performed on the USA Network and Canada’s MUCH Music Network and was offered a recording contract by FarmClub, then a label under Interscope records. The label later went under.

Now a solo artist, Bob writes and performs frequently on stage with Grammy winner poet/singer/songwriter Rod McKuen, best known for songs such as "Seasons In the Sun," "If You Go Away," and the Oscar nominated "Jean." He also works with Grammy winner David Tyson, writer of the hit "Black Velvet," sung by Alannah Myles. Gentry is currently in the studio working on his forthcoming album with Tony DeFranco of the famous DeFranco family and James Lee Stanley (known to many as the 5th Monkey) singing back-up vocal tracks.

“This show really comes at a great time in my life and career. After being so close to something so many times, it would be great if I were able to reach my goals. An online competition like this seems tailor made for me to be able to do just that,” says Gentry.
