KUA Strikes Gold, Wins Four Statewide PR Awards

Kissimmee Utility Authority captured four statewide public relations awards in the 2006 Golden Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Florida Public Relations Association.

Kissimmee, Fla., (PRWEB) August 10, 2006 – Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA - www.kua.com) captured four statewide awards Tuesday evening in the 2006 Golden Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Florida Public Relations Association.

The competition recognizes companies that exhibit and employ comprehensive public relations projects that meet the highest standards of excellence in four components of PR programming: research, planning, execution and evaluation.

A Golden Image Award is presented to the top-scoring entry in each category. An Award of Distinction is presented to all entries that meet the standard of excellence set by a panel of judges. A Judges' Award is presented by judges for an outstanding entry that achieves maximum results while using a minimum amount of money.

In the crisis communications category, KUA received an Award of Distinction for its 2005 hurricane information campaign. The campaign – which included advertising, electronic restoration alerts, neighborhood meetings and a 36-page printed hurricane guide – was developed to train and communicate preparedness information to the residents of Osceola County. The campaign was developed at a cost of 33 cents per utility customer.

In the special event category, KUA received an Award of Distinction and a Judges’ Award for the decommissioning of its historic Roy E. Hansel diesel generating plant. The decommissioning included free public tours, a decommissioning ceremony and a commemorative poster. The campaign was developed at a cost of 12 cents per utility customer.

In the annual report category, KUA received a Golden Image Award for its 48-page annual report, titled "A Lifetime of Power." The report pays tribute to the utility’s Roy E. Hansel diesel plant which was decommissioned in September 2005 after 104 years of continuous service. The report is available online at http://www.kua.com/Corporate/Press/Reports/Index.aspx.

The awards were presented as part of FPRA's 68th annual conference in Amelia Island, Fla. A full recap of the conference can be found at http://www.fprablog.com.

KUA has earned 190 local, state, national and international communication awards for public relations programs, special events, community relations and publications since 1995.

Founded in 1901, KUA (www.kua.com) is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility providing electric and telecommunication services to 170,000 residents in five Central Florida counties.
