Chester, UK (PRWEB) August 12, 2006 -- MSI Marketing Research for Industry, specialist in business-to-business market research, published a detailed report on The UK Market for Passive Fire Protection in July 2006. Containing 159 pages with 100 tables, MSI analyse in detail the market for passive fire protection in the UK, by type of product in 2005, tracking the developments which have taken place since 2001, and forecasting the drivers and expected development of the market until 2010. The report also provides a distribution and industry overview with the profiles of 34 manufacturers of passive fire protection products. Similar reports are available from MSI on the French and German markets.

The growing awareness of the benefits of fire security systems, the introduction of new fire safety regulations, the standardisation of the European norms and the increase in construction output have been the drivers of demand for passive fire protection products for the last five years.

The Construction Product Directive (CPD) aims to standardise domestic building regulations throughout the EU, allowing the building products carrying the CE marking to be used within the EU. The CPD has helped improve the quality of passive fire protection products and therefore increase the value of the market.

Fire doors remained the largest proportion of the market for passive fire protection products. Stimulated by the trends in the UK construction market of commercial buildings such as offices and hospitals, the market for fire doors increased by 15% between 2001 and 2005. Furthermore, the recent construction of a greater number of flats stimulated the demand for fire doors.

The demand for fire resisting architectural ironmongery is closely linked to the fire doors market. Standards such as the Health, Safety and Welfare regulations in terms of fire resistance led the demand between 2001 and 2005 towards one-hour fire resistant architectural ironmongery.

Fire resisting partitions, screens, panels, ceilings and linings have been mainly used by the public non-housing sector, the commercial and the industrial sectors, the leisure and entertainment sectors and the transport sector between 2001 and 2005.

The increase in the price of copper between 2001 and 2005 had a negative effect on the market for fire resisting cables. In parallel, the introduction of cheaper and more efficient products has limited the increase in price of raw materials such as solvents and stimulated the demand for passive fire protection for multi-storey structural steelwork such as intumescent paints between 2001 and 2005.

Intumescent seals have been largely used alongside other passive fire protection products such as fire doors, cables and ventilation systems. In addition, their compliance with Building Regulations in terms of preventing and delaying the passage of fire and smoke from one compartment to another has been a major driver of the market.

Sales of fire resistant glass have been stimulated by design trends towards modern transparent architecture in terms of internal compartmentation and façade glazing, with the increasing popularity of wire-free glass between 2001 and 2005.

Between 2006 and 2010, the market for passive fire protection in the UK is expected to increase by 14% in value terms. The market is forecasted to be driven by increasing construction output, coupled with the impact of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRO), which will come into force from 1st October 2006.

The RRO places greater responsibility on building owners and occupiers to ensure the safety of the buildings occupants. The RRO is expected to stimulate passive fire protection products sales and particularly intumescent seals and fire resistant glass.

Alongside the RRO, the Construction Product Directive (CPD) and the European Standards will continue to lead the demand for passive fire protection products towards higher fire performance?rated products and will be a major driver of the fire doors market in the next five years. Further, the Disability Discrimination Act will continue to benefit the fire resisting architectural ironmongery market, which is expected to have the strongest growth between 2006 and 2010.
