Ecom PPO.com, Inc.SM (Ecom) announces the hire of G. Scott Smith. Smith will head the marketing department as its chief marketing officer.
Smith is the latest hire in Ecom’s effort to expand its sales and marketing department. In May, Ecom hired Bud Brooks to fill its director of sales position. Smith’s role as the chief marketing officer is to market the Ecom product, help create the brand and increase awareness in the healthcare marketplace.
Smith has nearly 30 years of industry experience. Prior to joining Ecom, he worked in several upper-level administrative roles at the National Health Insurance Company, rising in two short years from controller to president and ultimately chief executive officer. During his 28 year tenure with National Health, he helped the company expand from 19 employees to more than 400 employees in 2002. He turned $6 million of premium income in 1978 to total assets of $1 billion in 1999 and changed the capital and surplus from $979,000 in 1978 to approximately $58 billion in 2001.
Smith’s other noted accomplishments include the development of a management team and operating procedures to manage the company’s growth. He initiated and managed an annuity sales program that has grown to approximately $130 million in annualized premium collections with a fund balance of more than $1.2 billion in a 10 year period, as well as effectuating the sale of several blocks of business, which resulted in a positive surplus impact and allowed the company to finance its growth during its formative states.

Smith holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Stephen F. Austin University in Texas, where he graduated with honors. Smith is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Health Policy Task Force, American Council of Life Insurance and the Texas Association of Life & Health Insurers, where he served as president and on the board of directors and has been very active on committees. In addition, Smith serves on the board of directors for St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Smith has been married for 25 years to wife, Bertille. They have two children, Stacy and Brian, son-in-law Cody and daughter-in-law Keegan, and grandchildren Kameron Nicole and Dylan.
