First French Speaking Ubuntu Certified Professionals Announced

The Agence Universitaire de la Francophone (AUF) announces the first French speaking Ubuntu Certified Professionals.

(PRWEB) August 13, 2006 -- The Agency of French-speaking Universities (AUF), representing 616 French-speaking higher education institutions globally, the Linux Professional Institute (LPI), and Canonical Ltd have announced the world's first Ubuntu certification in French. *

The first Ubuntu Certified Professional exams in French took place at Dakar (Senegal) on July 15, 2006. The certification exams were created by Canonical Ltd and a team of French-speaking experts from the AUF. The AUF team was composed of Nicolas Larrousse (CNRS engineer -- system and network admin, France) and Tahar Ben Achour (system and network admin, Tunisia).

In response to fast-growing demand, the AUF plans to schedule more Ubuntu Certified Professional exams and training sessions in French-speaking universities globally. This program is part of the policy to promote free and open source software using the "Linux and Free software centres network" created by the AUF.

Jane Silber, a spokesperson for Canonical, the sponsor of Ubuntu said, "One of core values of the Ubuntu project is accessibility to all. We are tremendously excited that AUF have made this certification programme available to millions of French-speaking IT professionals & students globally."

The Ubuntu Certified Professional program consists of a single exam on top of LPI's existing 101 and 102 exams providing candidates with the dual advantage of a recognised existing global IT certification standard, LPIC-1, plus the "Ubuntu Certified Professional" status.

Certification is open to all IT specialists seeking to improve or get recognition for their Ubuntu skills, regardless of whether or not they are studying at the AUF associated Universities.
