San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 14, 2006 -- Diverse views of the Bay Area are the inspiration behind City Streets, the third annual cityscapes show at STUDIO Gallery in San Francisco. The show, which runs from August 16th – September 10th, includes painting, photography, etchings and sculpture.

Work in the show ranges from panoramic views to close-up perspectives. San Francisco painter Paul Ferney’s “View from Coit Tower” shows the city in silhouette, with the Golden Gate Bridge just visible on the horizon. Scott Grabowski likewise includes several well-known local sites in his paintings: "Primus inter Pares" is his view of San Francisco City Hall, shows the building in all its grandeur. Photographer Pep Ventosa uses dozens of individual photographs to develop a single view of a block of Columbus Avenue. San Francisco painter Nicholas Coley sets up an easel and paints on the street, where he frequently talks with interested onlookers as he works on his long perspectives of city blocks.

Other artists focus closer in, on the vignettes that make up daily life in the city: waiting for a bus, walking in the rain downtown, or the view of the street from an apartment window. San Francisco “dumpster diva” Lola trains her eye on the urban grit that is inevitable in any city, turning a piece of graffiti into a highly-lacquered resin painting that highlights the beauty in what many of us try not to see as we walk around the city: “I pay attention to what’s around me. I find beauty in a rusted nail, or a scrap of paper where the ink has run. I like the sense of history in the stuff I find.”

City Streets runs from August 16th – September 10th, with an opening reception on Saturday, August 19th, 4 – 8 pm. STUDIO Gallery is located at 1718A Polk Street (between Clay and Washington) in San Francisco. Gallery hours are Wednesday – Friday 11 am – 8 pm, Saturday + Sunday 11 am – 6 pm, and Monday + Tuesday by appointment.
