The concept of the NEXT Magazine Out There Awards began in early 2005 when a copy of NEXT was paraded around the set of Saturday Night Live--during a gay-themed skit--by A-list celeb Johnny Knoxville who was then bestowed with a fictitious NEXT Magazine Out There Award. NEXT Magazine took the concept and created the real thing in August 2005 as a spoof-on-gay-award-shows award show. And, what a success…

--A green room of over 100 gay and lesbian celebrities, performers and nightlife personalities.
--Media coverage by both of the national gay and lesbian television networks, Here! TV and Logo, as well national coverage on VH-1.
--Post-event editorial in the New York Post’s Page 6 column touting the event as the “gay event of the year.”

This year, the NEXT Magazine Out There Awards is proud to be involved with KeepAChildAlive.org, a NYC-based charity relief organization that provides critical antiretroviral medications to HIV-positive children living in sub-Saharan Africa.
