Paltalk, the largest video chat community on the Internet with more than four million active members, announced today that it promoted Joel Smernoff, COO, to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer and hired Matthew Gore as Vice President of Marketing. Both executives will report to Paltalk founder and Chief Executive Officer Jason Katz and oversee the company’s efforts to develop the brand and expand the user base of the Paltalk Messenger, a unique program that allows users to interact one-to-one or to thousands of people simultaneously via video, voice and text chat.
As President, Smernoff will continue to oversee all business operations, including business strategy, product design, marketing, sales, customer service, finance and administration. In his role as VP of Marketing, Gore will be responsible for developing and managing a coordinated marketing approach to support the rapid growth of Paltalk, one of the most popular online services with more than 42 million downloads accounting for eight billion voice minutes per year.

Smernoff joined Paltalk in 2004 after setting business strategy and overseeing operations at a variety of small technology start-ups and large Fortune 500 companies. With more than 15 years of experience, he previously co-founded America Online’s first brand extension, AOL for Small Business, and was an executive of Netscape’s Netbusiness team. Smernoff earned his MBA in Finance and BS in Engineering, both from the University of Michigan.

Gore holds a Master of Science in Sport Marketing and Management from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Arts from Binghamton University.
