Memphis, TN (PRWEB) August 18, 2006 -- On Friday August 19, Golfers Shaun Arnold and Jerry Smith of Houston will travel to Memphis to face Billy Wingo and Nick Stiles of Memphis, TN. This is the first annual Two-man golf Marathon featuring 72 holes of golf on some of the finest golf courses in the Memphis area in just two days. Each 18 holes will be played on different courses in the Memphis area and Northern Mississippi.
This tournament is the culmination of an entire summer of golf excellence and pairs two of the best two-man golf teams in the states of Tennessee and Texas against each other. The winner will take the Rochester trophy back to his home state.
Shaun Arnold of Marietta, OH who currently resides in Houston is excited about the opportunity to play Wingo/Stiles. "Memphis, although known for BBQ, blues, and Elvis, is really a fantastic golf town as well. This 72-hole tournament format should really exemplify some of the great golf available in this area." Shaun is the World Houston Closest-to-pin July champion. He resides in Houston with his wife Amy.
Jerry Smith, a reservoir engineer with ExxonMobil, is excited about the opportunity to team up again with Arnold for this tournament in Memphis. "It's not often that you get to play with a player the caliber of a Shaun Arnold. I'm just delighted to get to play with him again after we pulled down some cash winnings at the World Houston tournament in July. Shaun really brings out the best in my game." Jerry lives in Houston with his wife Kristin and dogs, Charlie and Hoodi.
Billy Wingo, a native of Hendersonville, TN is looking forward to the challenge of facing Arnold/Smith on some of Memphis' finest 72 holes. "Arnold/Smith are, well, you could say just plain good. I knew Jerry Smith in high school and he was good then but he has only improved since that time. I have never met Shaun Arnold, but have heard about his big closest to pin winnings in Houston and accuracy of that level frightens me. To play with Arnold/Smith is about the biggest honor a golfer could have next to playing with a TIger Woods, Phil Mickelson, etc." Billy lives in Memphis with his wife Natalie and dog, Emma.
Nick Stiles of Memphis could not be contacted for comment but his agent did release this comment. "I will not be intimidated by Arnold/Smith. I am a golfer - I breathe golf, smell golf, and inhale golf. I will not let Arnold/Smith come to Memphis and embarass me in my own hometown." Nick lives in Memphis with his wife, Emily.
