Composed in verse, this incredibly motivational book chronicles the experiences of the original team members who, with a strong belief in themselves and each other as well as a “can do” attitude, became the first to represent their island nation in the Winter Olympic Games, which were held in Calgary, Canada in 1988. This unlikely feat shocked the world and inspired the 1993 block buster movie by Walt Disney Productions entitled “Cool Runnings.”
“Yes, I Can”, intended for children ranging in the ages of seven to twelve years, will teach and reinforce to readers that, like the original Jamaican bobsled team, they too will achieve their dreams once they believe in themselves, work hard and persevere. The book focuses on following one’s own dreams, eliminating fear to pursue those dreams and embracing opportunities despite the inevitable obstacles they will face. Harris anticipates that the powerful lessons this improbable yet true story espouses will not only inspire children to build a healthy and high self esteem but will also encourage them to pursue their dreams even in the face of insurmountable odds.
