Iron Man Chiro Goes the Distance for Chemical Dependency
And his inspiring new book gives hope to thousands.
Parksville, BC (PRWEB) August 23, 2006 -- Dr. Larry Smith, a Canadian chiropractor, will be competing in the Subaru Iron Man Canada Triathlon on Sunday, August 27, 2006 to raise money for the Edgewood Foundation (https://www.edgewood.ca/foundation_donate_form.asp). The Edgewood Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit, registered charitable society whose mission is to provide funding for addiction research, education and scholarships for those suffering from chemical dependency.
The effects of alcohol and drug addiction are devastating not only to the individual but also to their family and society as a whole. It is estimated that at least 10% of our population suffer from this disease but many never seek treatment due to the social stigma, denial of the condition or the cost of treatment.
"The cost of treatment is out of reach for most people," explains Dr. Smith. "The Edgewood Foundation offers financial aid to those who require treatment but cannot afford it. “I am very grateful that I have the opportunity to participate in the Iron Man Triathlon and to support a very worthy cause.”
Dr. Smith is a veteran of over 14 full marathons and 25 triathlons, but the Iron Man Triathlon is a first for him. The race consists of a 2.4 mile swim; followed by a 112 mile bike ride; followed by a 26 mile marathon.
