XMLAW announced today the availability of its Enterprise Portal System for law firm intranets and extranets. Currently available on Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and planned for release along with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, the Enterprise Portal System allows firms to integrate their line-of-business systems within SharePoint, search all a firm’s content sources from within SharePoint, and dynamically organize content to support the way professionals work.
Most law firms have a variety of systems to help them run their firm and provide service to their clients. Each system, such as those for managing large volumes of documents, tracking time and billing information, and managing client relationships, has its own user interface, requires knowledge of each system, and necessitates navigating between those systems to get all the information an attorney needs to do their job effectively.
The Enterprise Portal System extends the SharePoint 2003 and 2007 platforms to fit the way law firms work and the way they use information to drive client service and better manage their practices. Firms can combine separate systems into a consistent user interface within SharePoint and present information in legal-specific contexts, such as clients, matters, or practice areas.
“With SharePoint and the XMLAW Enterprise Portal System, a firm’s intranet portal effectively becomes the attorney’s desktop – a single location where they can access all of the information, systems and resources they need to efficiently perform their jobs. The Enterprise Portal System allows firms to design the portal around the way their attorneys work, not around the features and functions of a variety of disconnected systems,” said Rob Saccone, President and CEO of XMLAW. “Core law firm systems that are managing content are becoming more transparent to users, while the portal allows them to complete their daily tasks without leaving their intranet or learning the intricacies of multiple systems.”
XMLAW has also partnered with a number of legal industry vendors such as Microsoft, Interwoven, Hummingbird and LexisNexis Interface Software to provide SharePoint-enabled clients that leverage each vendor’s capabilities while taking full advantage of SharePoint and the Enterprise Portal System framework. XMLAW’s ecosystem of partners and affiliates is expanding rapidly with new vendors – such as Contact Networks with the most widely used Enterprise Relationship Management (ERM) solution on the market – seeking SharePoint integration through XMLAW’s Enterprise Portal System.
“Since SharePoint has become so popular, enabling ContactNet to work with this platform was important for our customers. XMLAW’s technology for building integrated SharePoint applications made it simple for us to provide rich, deep integration with SharePoint in very little time,” said Geoffrey Hyatt, Founder and CEO of Contact Networks.
The Enterprise Portal System extends the SharePoint platform to provide
- Integration of content and functionality from business-critical legal applications such as document management, client relationship management, and time and billing systems,
- High-performance, unified search across all law firm content sources, and
- Easily customizable, legal-specific portal applications, site templates and design.
XMLAW also provides best practices methodology for implementation and increasing user adoption, training, and ongoing support to ensure successful implementations.
Unified searching across all law firm systems, including millions of documents stored in document management systems, allows users to stay within their intranet while searching all content sources. Interactive search results allow drilling down to refine searches, linking to related information, and are customized to include functionality through real-time application integration.
The Enterprise Portal System supports the way users work, whether they are searchers or browsers and supports finding information through associative learning. By using SharePoint as a single platform for searching and browsing, the Enterprise Portal System provides the most complete solution for law firms.
Several law firms are currently in production with the Enterprise Portal System, including Goodman and Carr LLP of Toronto and Baker & Daniels LLP of Indianapolis. XMLAW is also currently working with several customers to implement the SharePoint 2007 Enterprise Portal System including Sheppard Mullin LLP of Los Angeles and Pro Bono Net of New York.
