IronPort® Systems Inc., the leader in gateway security, today announced that the company will be hosting a blood drive at their worldwide headquarters in San Bruno, California. Throughout the day on Tuesday, August 22, IronPort employees from all departments will roll up their sleeves and donate blood to help protect the Bay Area’s blood supply. The Blood Centers of the Pacific (BCP) reported last week (http://www.bloodcenters.org/press/29.htm) that they are in dire need of donations. IronPort has also committed to hosting regular blood drives throughout the year – giving the Blood Centers a reliable, on-going source for donation.

“The nature of high-tech is extremely fast moving and competitive. But, at IronPort, we try not to lose sight of our role in the community,” said Scott Weiss, CEO and Co-Founder of IronPort Systems. “We have always believed that the greatest asset a technology company has is not its technology, but its employees –who invent, nurture, and inspire success—both at work and in the community at large."

“Donating blood is a mission critical activity and an important community responsibility,” added Weiss. “I’m proud of our employees and I am pleased that IronPort can make an impact. We hope that other Bay Area company follow suit.”

Typically, the summertime brings blood shortages to metropolitan areas, as many regular blood donors go on vacation and donor groups such as high schools and colleges aren’t able to host blood drives. In addition, the recent attempted terrorist attacks in London are a frightening reminder of how critical it is to be prepared to be able to respond to an emergency, such as a natural disaster or attack.

“We’re proud to partner with IronPort, who’s enabling their employees to give the gift of life by donating blood during their company’s blood drive,” said Dr. Nora Hirschler, President of Blood Centers of the Pacific. “IronPort’s community leadership is a great example of how businesses can make a direct and vital impact in our community.“
