Renowned Author and Poet, Nikki Giovanni, Gives Baby Boomer Author's Book Her Blessing
"Whatever! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age" receives words of praise from best-selling author, Nikki Giovanni.
(PRWEB) August 23, 2006 -- Nikki Giovanni called "Whatever! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age" "... the right story at the right time ..." in her review of the self-published book by baby boomer author, Beverly Mahone. The two met recently during a Literary Festival in Charlotte, NC.
Ms. Mahone says she was "surprised" but "excited" when Ms. Giovanni agreed to review her original manuscript back in April of this year. "The fact that she was willing to read the work of an unknown, aspiring author says a lot about her. She's a class act and someone I've admired and respected for a long time."
"Whatever! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age" is a book about growing older, as seen through the eyes of the 49-year-old, self-proclaimed diva author. Mahone takes a humorous and inspirational approach to topics such as weight gain, hot flashes, menopause and middle age dating.
"Some people call it a midlife crisis. I call it cruel and unusual punishment. My middle-aged years have resulted in some spreading and sagging and cellulite---while my breasts, belly and lap are getting better acquainted....These days everything I eat goes straight to my waistline. Sometimes all I have to do is look at food and I gain weight!" is a passage from Ms. Mahone's book.
She's also come up with a baby boomer anthem, called "We are Baby Boomers," sung to the tune of "I am Woman" by Helen Reddy.
The popularity of the book has resulted in a podcast spinoff called, "Whatever!" which Mahone, a motivational speaker, hosts weekly on succestalk.com.
The author, crowned a baby boomer expert by MSNBC-TV during a guest appearance on their Boomer Nation series recently, adds she is confident now more than ever that she will receive a publishing deal.
"Whatever! A Baby Boomer's Journey Into Middle Age" is available through Amazon.com. To request an interview with the author or to invite her to speak to your group, please contact her directly.
