Independent musician accepts unique invite by XM Satellite Radio's Country Dan Dixon to perform live in their D.C. Performance Theater. Listeners' response to "Name on the Wall" brings XM to extend offer to indie musician typically reserved for big names in country music.

Independent musician Doug Spartz has accepted a rare invite to perform live on XM Satellite Radio at their Performance Theatre in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, August 23, 2006. The performance, hosted by “Country Dan” Dixon, runs live from 7:00-8:00PM EST, and usually features heavy hitters in Country music.

This show will feature Doug’s music, including a duet with the European Country Music Association’s 2006 “Male Vocalist of the Year”, Todd Fritsch. The unique request by XM for an independent artist to perform, was due to the overwhelming response to the song "Name On the Wall" from listeners of XM Satellite Radio. “Name on the Wall”, is a poignant story about a family dealing with a son away at war. Spartz is quickly becoming the voice of the unheard families currently dealing with that exact situation. “Name on the Wall” is gripping the attention of radio and press across the nation, garnering airplay on hundreds of stations, including XM, Sirius and Clear Channel.

Doug Spartz is no stranger to the music scene, once being named “Rising Star of the Year” by the Country Music Association of America for his song “Stayin’ Young is Getting Old”. The song was also named the CMA “Novelty Song of the Year”. One year later, “Colors and Numbers” was named “Song of the Year” by Airplay International, and Spartz was named “Male Vocalist of the Year” (Novelty Division) by the Academy of Independent Recording Artists. His songs were consistently in the top 10 on the MAC Report and other independent charts. Many Gavin stations around the U.S. made Doug a staple on secondary radio.

With all of the accolades, it appeared that Spartz was destined to be an instant success on the national music scene, but his wife’s diagnosis of ovarian cancer changed things. Doug chose to forego his musical pursuits to care for her during her long illness. Sadly, she lost the battle with cancer, but her courageous spirit has inspired Doug to return to his second love, music.

As a result, Spartz has penned some of the best songs yet, including his latest release, “Name on the Wall”. While big label acts have long held the forefront of the music industry, the digital era has helped open the door for indie artists like Doug Spartz. His songwriting style touches people in the way only someone can through the voice of experience and wisdom. Insiders say his “Name on the Wall” is “unbelievable”. Find out for yourself when you tune in to XM Satellite radio at 7:00PM EST on Wednesday, August 23. You can also hear the show via their live internet stream at: http://www.xmradio.com/xstream/
