OneStorm has been a valuable tool for our hurricane education campaign across Puerto Rico. We emphasize OneStorm in hurricane preparedness and mitigation, and having this plan readily available with our specific shelters certainly complements our education efforts.
Saint Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) August 23, 2006
As memories of Hurricane Katrina grow stronger with the approach of its first anniversary, Tropical Storm Debby forms in the Atlantic. This storm, developing at a time when Katrina's impact and aftermath is about to be remembered, reminds us of how important it is to be prepared. This season, however, individuals and businesses are equipped with a tool to create personalized hurricane plans tailored to their locations and needs.
At the free website http://www.OneStorm.org/ members can create, save and print:
1. Shopping lists of preparedness items based on family size
2. Plans for pets and family members with special needs
3. Flood risk and evacuation zone assessments
4. Procedures for staying at home or evacuating the area
5. Locations of nearby hurricane shelters, and much more
Demonstrating their ability and passion for responding to the changing needs of its members, OneStorm launched a Spanish-language version of their site to prepare families for Tropical Storm Chris in Puerto Rico.
"OneStorm has been a valuable tool for our hurricane education campaign across Puerto Rico. We emphasize OneStorm in hurricane preparedness and mitigation, and having this plan readily available with our specific shelters certainly complements our education efforts." -Ada R. Monzón, Chief Meteorologist Univision Puerto Rico and co-founder of Huracanes y Casa Segura (Hurricanes and Safe Homes), a non-profit organization.
In addition to the wealth of tools, articles and other resources available at OneStorm.org, members receive critical storm updates if their homes or businesses are in immediate danger. While there is much that can be done to prepare ahead of a storm, OneStorm stresses the importance of heeding local emergency management orders when it's time to respond.
Municipalities, media outlets and other organizations can provide free hurricane preparedness to their members by following linking instructions found on the home page. Additionally, employers and emergency managers can purchase corporate and community preparedness reports to assess the readiness of their employees and residents.
