Anoka, MN (PRWEB) August 24, 2006
The first ever “Million Mile Challenge” is kicking off the start of a new and exciting nation-wide fitness tour, starting in Anoka County, Minnesota on August 30th, 2006. The goal? Challenge local residents to collectively log one million miles (walking, running and biking) and get excited about exercise. The feature event is on Sept 12th at Bunker Hills Park in Coon Rapids, with a full day of group outings, exciting speakers and videos, and a web site demonstration. Local media should arrive prior to 11:00 A.M. for the home school hike with 80 children, or prior to 7:00 P.M. for the biggest group outing estimated at 200 people.
The “Million Mile Challenge” team features Brian Burnham and Leon Godwin of Cirque Productions, creators of “Trek” (a hike across Appalachian Trail) and “Share the Road” (a bike ride across America), and Brad Wilson, world record holder for hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. This team is ready for a new challenge, get the nation off the couch and out the door with them, experiencing all the benefits that an active lifestyle can bring. By sharing their incredible stories and videos, they intend to sign up folks to take the Million Mile Challenge.
Our two week tour in Minnesota includes two triathlons, a 5k run, speaking engagements at schools and other venues, outings with local clubs, and a full day of events at Bunker Hills Park in Coon Rapids. At the top of each hour the team will take out groups of walkers, runners and bikers, and at the bottom half of the hour those folks will listen to some great adventure stories and see a demo on the web site http://www.millionmilechallenge.com.
This challenge is for everyone, groups or individuals, experienced or beginner. Challenge your neighborhood. Challenge your co-workers and see who can rack up the most miles. Set up a team challenge within your company, or strike up a competition with the company across the street.
