Previously containing only men's offerings, the Annansi Clothing Co. collection is being evolved to include women's wear at the request of numerous female fans. Designer Kofi Annan (no relation) has created a collection of upscale women's streetwear with a cultural twist. Ever emphasizing and reflecting the company motto, Afrique C'est Chic (Africa is chic), the new collection gives the bold colors and strong graphics the label's customers are familiar with a feminine touch. "We chose to preview the collection during this event because we feel that the Sofistafunk Skirt customer is the same fashion-forward woman whose eclectic style and unique sense of self draws her to Annansi Clothing Co.'s designs," Mr. Annan says.
The edgy styles and slim fit of previous Annansi Clothing Co. collections have already attracted rave reviews worldwide. The Africa-inspired shirts have been worn by celebrities such as Akon and The Fugees, and has appeared at the American Music Awards and on B.E.T. and VH1. The company was previously nominated for a Fashion Group International Menswear award. The full collection of women's t-shirts will be available for purchase in Spring 2007 at select boutiques.
