FairCom Corporation and Tom Snyder Productions, a Scholastic company, have completed an agreement for the use of FairCom’s c-tree Server with Tom Snyder Productions’ new “FASTT Math” application, a math intervention program to help struggling students in grades 2 and up develop fluency with basic math. “FASTT Math” (Fluency and Automaticity through Systematic Teaching with Technology) provides a continuously adaptive program that increases math fact fluency in customized, 10-minute daily sessions. The software recently won the Codie award in its category.
FairCom’s c-tree Server is used with “FASTT Math” in classroom, school and district-wide installations, and can support the diverse hardware and operating system combinations that are found in many schools. “School software must support varied mixtures of client and server operating systems,” states Eric Hilfer, Director of Software Engineering for Tom Snyder Productions. “Most schools have a variety of hardware configurations and FairCom’s c-tree Server supports all of the combinations that we encounter.” “FASTT Math” is available for Macintosh OS X, Windows, and Netware.
Randal Hoff, FairCom's Director of Business Development, explains, "We have customers with applications that have been running for many years supporting well over 1,000 concurrent connections. This level of concurrent user support was important to Tom Snyder Productions so they could confidently position their client/server based products as district-wide solutions. Additionally, c-tree Server has been designed to install and operate transparently, without requiring continual enhancements or the latest hardware to operate at peak performance.”
The c-tree Server works well in a school environment where educators have near zero tolerance for problems with database performance and corruption. It has an incredibly small footprint, yet it supports aging hardware and large spikes in the number of concurrent users, typical of the start of a school day. Automatic transaction logging ensures data integrity in unstable network environments, and encryption to secure sensitive student data on disk and across the network wires.
