"While millions of dollars have been spent on PKI, digital signatures, and other related security technologies in an effort to keep government processes electronic, the majority of agencies still fall to paper each time a signature is required in a document," says Michael Laurie, vice-president and co-founder of Silanis Technology.

The reason, explains Laurie, is a failure to fully understand the purpose of a signature and the processes used in the pen and paper world to ensure compliant business records, and what technologies can replicate the same force and effect in the electronic world.
